ROUTINE-BASED LEARNING

Each chapter of ASL at Home centers around a daily routine common to young children's lives.

Who can use ASL at Home?

ASL at Home is geared toward families of children zero to five years of age. Families can learn on their own, or with the guidance of the professionals who support them. The curriculum can also be easily modified to fit the needs of families with older children.

A wealth of learning in every chapter

  • A young child signing "dirty," with a plate of spaghetti in front of them on the table

    Routine Theme-Based Vocabulary

  • A mom signing "snow" while reading a book to her baby, who is lying on their back in a crib

    Expressive and Receptive Sentence Practice

  • A toddler with her feet in an adult-sized snowboard, while her mom reaches around her and signs "jump" in front of her

    Language Enrichment Techniques

  • A toddler sitting on their father's lap. Both are signing "I love you" and looking at their hands

Feedback from individuals who have used ASL at Home:

“‘More! All gone! That’s mine!’ Children develop language while engaged in enjoyable, meaningful, natural interactions with their loved ones. The ASL at Home curriculum provides families with language enrichment strategies and routines to use every day. Repetitive use of ASL in relaxed and communicative ways will make language soar!”

— Professor of Deaf Education

“The cultural wealth lessons were a highlight part of the ASL at Home curriculum for me. In fact, I was not expecting to be taught these lessons. Cultural lessons are not typically taught with traditional ASL classes, so it was an added bonus to have this component in class.”

— Debbie

Speech-Language Pathologist

“What sets ASL at Home aside from other ‘traditional’ ASL texts is that it is thoughtfully planned out to be easily applicable. I’ve taken many language courses and forgotten the vocabulary or skills quickly, as I wasn’t set up to be in an environment to USE the vocabulary. ASL at Home makes it easy. Fantastically done and well thought out!”

— Hard of hearing mother of three and pediatric audiologist

ASL at Home is the first ASL curriculum thoughtfully designed for those that need it the most: families of a deaf or hard of hearing child.”

— Caitlin Stueve, MA, CCC-SLP

Speech-Language Pathologist, TheSigningSLP.com

“…our family’s experience with ASL education has been frustrating and discouraging…in light of this recent experience, I am so appreciative for the ASL at Home curriculum. It is so well-designed and supportive of families.”

— Parent of a deaf child

“So many tracheostomy resources encourage ASL and I wish they would recommend this program. I found myself nodding my head in the introduction, which states that many resources are not right for young families to incorporate language in their everyday routine and that they don't have access or support to learn ASL. We need more than the Baby Signs vocabulary. We are signing for lifelong language potential! Bilingualism has only benefits, not limitations.”

— Parent of a hearing child with a tracheostomy and ventilator

“When I opened ASL at Home 2.0, I could not put it down. The lessons are well organized, and the signing videos are clear and easy to follow. The use of QR codes makes it user-friendly. I wish it was available ten years ago! I hope every hearing parent of a deaf child will make learning ASL a priority. It is so worth it! Our children are worth it!”

— Hard of hearing mother of three and pediatric audiologist

“An invaluable resource for families. ASL at Home is both thorough and accessible at the same time. But what truly makes it unique is that it goes beyond helping you learn to communicate with your child, and also helps you learn the skills to develop and honor your child’s identity as a deaf/hard-of-hearing person.”

— Carly and David, parents of a hard-of-hearing child
